Fourth Generation Toyota Harrier
The next-generation Toyota Harrier has been officially unveiled in Japan. Harrier comes with a sportier design and is based on the much-publicized TNGA platform.
Toyota Motor Corp has finally announced that the fourth-generation Toyota Harrier will be launched in Japan and will go on sale in the international markets later this year.
The original Harrier was launched in the late 90s and went on to form the base of the Lexus RX. Toyota claimed that the vehicle they created goes beyond the SUV category to offer new value as "a life-enriching partner".
The coupe SUV comes with a much more dynamic design than the model it replaces, with a highly attractive coupeish roofline and a highly ranked rear windscreen. Like all the global models from the Japanese carmaker the new Harrier too comes in a TNGA platform.
Upfront, the Toyota Harrier features a beautiful chrome applique running below the headlights and the grille. The front carries a large bumper with a huge airdam. The signature headlamp gives the SUV a somewhat racy look with J-shaped LED DRLs. This projected LED headlamp emphasizes the fearless and wide feeling with a long design.
The sleeker design of the Harrier looks great from the side profile. Which include chrome-plated door handles, rising window line, a steeply ranking D-pillar, small rear quarter glass, and 19inch high-brightness silver painted multispoke alloy wheels.
At the rear, the Toyota Harrier gets a pair of sleek LED taillamps that extend into the Toyota badge positioned at the center of the tailgate. A long type LED high mount stop lamp with a strong presence is also adopted in the roof-mounted spoiler and a chrome-plated muffler tip placed on both sides.
Inside, the Toyota Harrier gets dual-tone black and tan leather upholstery cabin. The center console presents a wide and imposing impression of a horse's saddle and the highlight of the dashboard is a large 12.3inch touchscreen infotainment unit that is
positioned above the center console which appeals to the advanced feeling in the new Harrier room.
The aircon controls are positioned at a lower position and come in the form of a touch-sensitive HVAC control panel.
A dimmable panoramic roof, used for the first time by
Toyota. In addition to opening and closing, the
panoramic roof allows the light control function to instantly switch between light control and is equipped with electric shades.
Harrier comes loaded with a JBL audio system, safety sense collision mitigation system, 100V AC/1,500W accessory power outlet on the hybrid model, and a digital rear-view mirror among others.
The new-gen Toyota Harrier is available with a choice of petrol and hybrid powertrains. It draws power from a 170bhp and 207Nm 2.0-liter direct-injection turbo petrol engine which is coupled to a direct shift CVT. The hybrid version gets a 175bhp/221Nm 2.5-liter petrol engine that works in tandem with an 88KW electric motor at the front wheel. There's another 40KW electric motor that powers the rear axle for the four-wheel-drive version which takes the combined system output to 220bhp power. Anyway both versions are offered with all-wheel drivetrain.
There are no reports about its launch in India. But this SUV has the potential to fill the gap between Fortuner and Innova Crysta. However, spending time with the new Harrier will be an enriching experience.
